Suspects arrested in Texas drug trafficking case

Texas is renowned for being tough on crimes of all kinds. That includes drug trafficking crimes, as evidenced by a recent arrest of five people in a Texas county. The arrest was preceded by an anonymous tip that was communicated to law enforcement officers about suspected drug possession and distribution.

Based on that tip, which had referenced methamphetamine trafficking in specific, officers stationed themselves by the residence referenced in the tip and made note of the suspects and vehicles they saw there. Later, the officers observed the vehicles in another location and confronted the woman driving it. They found that the woman had 3.5 grams of methamphetamine in her possession and had a variety of drug paraphernalia items with her as well.

Officers arrested her and charged her with possession of a controlled substance. At the time of her arrest, she also had a warrant out on her for a previous instance of possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators at that point knew that the woman was not the only one involved in the drug trafficking, so they continued to investigate the other suspects. That led to them determining that some of those suspects were trafficking drugs between counties. One of them fled from officers in his car when the officers tried to pull him over. A high-speed chase followed, with that suspect then crashing his car and fleeing on foot, only to be caught by officers 45 minutes later.

Local officers brought in the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and that resulted in the apprehension of additional suspects. It also resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine with a street value of $9,500 and $17,000 in cash. The suspects will have their days in court and opportunities to address the charges against them.
